How to become a better CEO

four things you should do

Another week flew by, and today’s topic is becoming a better CEO, a.k.a. leader. Whether you lead a big or more minor team within the organization, you could use some of my tactics below.

Furthermore, some intelligent 🇳🇱 Dutch founders created a new calendar app, and if you are using YouTube, you can now summarize entire videos on auto-pilot. I have a sponsor in this edition; if you want to dive deep into the pasts of some great CEOs, subscribe to Open Source CEO later in this email.

Have a great weekend, see you on Tuesday.

🪑 How to become a better CEO

The advantage of starting your own business is that you get to be Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from day one. There is no need to climb the corporate ladder, mingle during drinks with the current management, or wait on promotions.

The downside, though, is that it will be lonely sometimes. There’s no one telling you what you should do next, but everyone will look in your direction, waiting for instructions. I’ve had the privilege to lead different teams over the years, and oh boy, I had my fair share of mistakes and failures. But I also created a simple system that helped me become a better leader and the CEO. I learned that the most important things are managing expectations and communicating often and clearly to your team.

My system was built out for the entire year. I would map out all essential events during an average year and plot them on a calendar. The four most important ones cover 80% (Pareto Principle) of the things you have control over.

Some feel uncomfortable, which is why they work. Others sound utterly simple but are practical as hell.
